Bouches du Rhône

The SDIS of the Bouches du Rhône has not only performed a risk analysis, but also a medical study in cooperation with the DGSCGC on the impact of PPE on the firemen during the effort. Thanks to these studies the SDIS 13 can offer its firemen a protection that’s not only perfectly adapted to the risks they encounter, but provides at the same time an increased comfort.

The suit is equipped with several innovations. The hood of the jacket is adapted to the F1 and F2 helmet. It is stowed under the shoulder flap and can easily be accessed by the fireman. It also allows for the SCBA to be fixed on the helmet.

There’s no need to wear an extra belt to attach a fireman’s tools. The jacket is equipped with an incorporated system to which detachable pockets (with a large volume) or an emergency mask can be attached. Several loops are provided to attach gloves, a gas detector, a flashlight, a radio…The balaclava can be stowed in an interior pocket of the jacket.

Comfort is an important feature of PPE. The suit of the SDIS 13 presents an innovation to increase comfort. A system is integrated inside the jacket that can be adapted according to the build of the wearer and the equipment that is attached to the jacket so the protection remains close to the body.

The SDIS 13 chose for complex 538 that consist mainly of non-woven fabrics. It is very breathable and offers at the same time a high degree of thermal protection.

The trousers consist of one fabric layer and must be worn over the station trousers of the type F1. They are in accordance with level 1 of the EN 469-2005 and comply with the requirements of the EN 1149-5.

Hivis stripings

Fluorescent striping - yellow glass beads

This striping, with a minimum width of 5 cm, only complies for the fluorescent part with the requirements of the EN 471/EN ISO 20471.
Its retroreflective qualities may not be taken into account for the obtention of the EN 471/EN ISO 20471 norm.

Retroreflective striping - silver glass beads (50 mm)

This striping with a minimum width of 50 mm takes advantage of glass beads to reflect the light to make the wearer of the suit visible in dangerous circumstances. In accordance with the requirements of the EN 471/EN ISO 20471.

Fluorescent shoulder flap

The fluorescent matter absorbs the non-visible UV-light that is present in daylight and adapts it to the wavelenght of the light it reflects. Consequently this light ends up in the visible part of the spectre offering a better visibility.

This phenomenon only produces itself by daylight, in the dark the fluorescent colour reacts as any 'normal' colour would.

To obtain an EN 471 class 2/2 certification there has to be a minimum of 0.50 m² of fluorescent matter present. In addition to the yellow combined striping FTP1200 or the retroreflective grey striping we use a flame retardant fabric that is in accordance with the demands of the EN 471 (fluo-part). The front flap can be fixed with Velcro or loops and can also be personalized.
